Asking for help

How good are you at asking for help? It's simpler for some than others, but if it's not your strength why not ask for help with asking for help!
For most of my life I was unaware of all the assistance that was available to me. Many of us are raised to be independent or to stand on our own two feet. This is beneficial in some ways, particularly that we see ourselves as self-sufficient and empowered. We feel that what we achieve is up to us and that's partially true. We do not rely on others to manifest our dreams. But the dance between self-sufficiency and dependence is something each of us learns whether the context is work, domestic or relational. When it comes to spiritual development, however, things are slightly different and less logical. Reading inspiring books or speaking with others who do spiritual work can begin to give us ideas and interest in seeing our world differently.
I'm here to tell you there's a lot of help out there for each of us. We are not expected to function as "islands" because far from that, we are One with the Universe. All things are connected, therefore we are helped to get where we need to go. For the asking, we open ourselves up to dreams we cannot even imagine! This blog will cover many of these aspects in a gradual and digestible manner.
Knowing what we truly need is something that comes from within the self and through listening to our inner voice. How do we do that? It starts with slowing down the mind, quieting the voice of our ego that is often in a state of fear. Acknowledging and setting aside that fear, even for a moment, is useful. Taking deep breaths (at least three) helps to achieve this. Meditation is even better, but more on this during another post.
Did you know we all have angels and helper guides available 24/7 just for the asking? If you don't believe this, you won't have their help because they need to be asked. Let's start with intention. When we set an intention or say a prayer to receive help, and specify what type of help we'd like, we do receive it from the Universe. Some people say words such as, "Thank you angels and helpers for assisting me to find a parking spot with ease." Others might pray like so: "Dear Universe, God, Source (or a Higher Power that feels best) I'm asking for help from my angels, helpers or better, to find a parking spot in this busy lot". Depending on the ask, it may be a person coming to our aid, a parking spot itself, an idea that pops into our head suddenly or some other invisible help. Sometimes it's not an immediate response; it may take a couple of days. Parking is an easy ask and a good one to begin with. A new job or direction might take a bit longer. During that time, remain positive. Believe that you will receive help and you will.
When living on my own there are many tasks that are difficult like heavy lifting, fixing things, hanging heavy pictures and so on. I couldn't possibly list all the things I've had help with, but my list is ever evolving! I simply ask for help through prayer. I recently wanted to hang a large, framed picture in my office. It was to hang above my desk but the desk was in the way of my wall access. First I angled the desk so I could step behind it. Then I positioned two hooks on the wall. All I had to do was place the wire over the hooks. If you've ever done this, you know it can be tricky. Trial #1 failed when both hooks ended up on the floor. One I could see, but not the other. I prayed for help to find the second one and quickly noticed it on the back of the frame! Trial #2 involved hammering the hooks back into the wall and lifting the picture to try to engage the wire across the two hooks. This time the body mechanics just felt right and one side hooked immediately. I again asked for help to hook the second side. Eventually after a few seconds I could feel the support of two hooks. Just to check, I peeked from the side with one eye closed to confirm proper hanging. Knowing the importance of gratitude, I immediately said, "Thank you!" for the help. Once we receive assistance we must acknowledge it with a thank you, prayer, fist pump, or whatever is your preferred way.
Your thoughts are so powerful. The more grateful and open you are, the better. If you feel stuck, feel free to ask for an intuitive reading with me. You'll receive useful information about moving forward. And if doing something differently feels difficult or uncomfortable, I can help. Just ask!
